The monorail will cease operations from 16 March 2005. Please inform all Sentosa guests and island partners that the last monorail service will operate as per normal on 15 March 2005 from 10pm to 10.30pm

Why is Sentosa discontinuing / stopping monorail operations?
The closure of this monorail is to make way for the new $140m Sentosa Express.
We have received feedback from our guests that the monorail is very slow and is not very comfortable.
As a mode of transportation between attractions it is not very effective as it moves only in one direction.

What measures are you taking to beef-up inter-island transport?
With effect from 16 March 2005, Sentosa will beef-up inter-island transportation with additional bus and beach tram services to cater to the gap created by the closure of monorail.

Any major changes in the bus / beach tram routes?
Not at the moment. However, with effect from 16 March 2005, Sentosa will beef-up inter-island transportation with additional bus and beach tram services to cater to the gap created by the closure of monorail.

What will be the fate of Sentosa's old monorails?
Beng Siew Construction has won the tender to purchase the 13 monorails.
It is entirely up to them to either scarp the lot or to resell it.

Will you retain one monorail to showcase to the Sentosa visitors?
No, we will not retain any of the trains. Beng Siew Construction has won the tender to purchase the 13 monorails.

When will Sentosa Express start operations?
By end 2006. And when the exciting, efficient and brand new Sentosa Express will become operational visitors can easily transfer from the Northeast MRT line to Sentosa Express, which will bring them directly into the island in well under four minutes.

Elevated on two-way tracks and encompassing a 2.15km route, the new Sentosa Express will be a driver-operated, fully computerized system with a capacity to carry 3,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
Plying through four stations, it will begin at the HarbourFront MRT station and continue across the Sentosa Causeway Bridge to reach the other three stations located strategically at key activity areas namely the Northern Entertainment Precinct; the Central Green Zone (access to the Merlion, Mount Imbiah Look Out, Images of Singapore, Carlsberg Sky Tower, Cable Car, Butterfly Park, etc.) and the Southern Beaches.

The monorail provided a round-the-island experience, why does the Sentosa Express line only have three stations?
To meet the more sophisticated needs of our guests, Sentosa is embarking on more efficient modes to bring them on and around the island with the Sentosa Express. The new people mover system will connect directly from
HarbourFront MRT station to three different stations on the island to provide direct access to the three different zones - namely, attractions zone, green zone and the beach zone. These three stations will be well
connected with the attractions within their respective zones to provide an efficient mode of inter-island transport to our guests.
