Get ready for a minute with 61 seconds. Scientists are delaying the start of 2006 by the first "leap second" in seven years, a timing tweak meant to make up for changes in the Earth's rotation.
The adjustment will be carried out by sticking an extra second into atomic clocks worldwide at the stroke of midnight Coordinated Universal Time, the widely adopted international standard, the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology said this week.
"Enjoy New Year's Eve a second longer," the institute said in an explanatory notice. "You can toot your horn an extra second this year."
Coordinated Universal Time coincides with winter time in London. On the U.S. East Coast, the extra second occurs just before 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Atomic clocks at that moment will read 23:59:60 before rolling over to all zeros.
A leap second is added to keep uniform timekeeping within 0.9 second of the Earth's rotational time, which can speed up or slow down because of many factors, including ocean tides. The first leap second was added on June 30, 1972, according to NIST, an arm of the U.S. Commerce Department.
High-speed communications systems among other modern technologies require precise time measurements.
Since 1999 until recently, the two time standards have been in close enough synch to escape any need to add a leap second, NIST said.
Although it is possible to have a negative leap second -- that is, a second deducted from Coordinated Universal Time -- so far all have been add-ons, reflecting the Earth's general slowing trend due to tidal breaking.
Deciding when to introduce a leap second is the responsibility of the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service, a standards-setting body. Under an international pact, the preference for leap seconds is December 31 or June 30.

Trip to Batam

Depart from Singapore at 10.50am, reach there around 10.50am too as they are 1 hour behind us. Went thru the custom, and is looking around for our pick up at the arrival hall.

We went round and round bt din manage to see anyone holding up a signboard etc. My friend called up the hotel, the line is being transfer from one dept to another, language is a problem, they told us to take taxi, my friend insisted the hotel to send a pick up and her voice went louder and louder.

Then finally a small little girl come up to us holding a small piece of receipt "excuse me, are you ms XXX?" This small little girl is hiding one corner, without holding any signboard or identify herself, hw are we going to recognise her??? Anyway, we told her that we had alrdy asked the hotel to send a taxi, can she cancel it for us, she look at us blankly but keep saying "yes, yes, yes" but din action.

We waited for more pple to come and they were complaining tht there is no signboard too .......

Finally got to our hotel, Harmoni Hotel at Nagoya Town. The place looks nice, the room is nice but the only one set of tolietries, slippers and towels, so we had to call up for extra set. The curtain is weird, only the day curtain can be fully drawn, the nite curtain is only hanging at the side, not able to draw it close at all............ We rest for a while and went on our itinerary.

We went to Win's Spa, just behind the Hotel, to look at the package and book for an appointment. It is a nice clean environment, due to time constraint, we decided to take the 1.5hr package with include full body massage, steam bath and body scrub and it cost $150,000 rupia equivalent to S$25.60

After booking, we walk back to the hotel and take the hotel taxi because we are worried and not sure how the taxi operate there and if the driver is trust worthy...... taxi fare is $20,000 rupia equivalent to S$3.42

Our first stop is Center Point, its quite near our hotel. We had Ayam Penyek for lunch, the price is 1/3 of the price in Singapore. Nothing much at Center Point, very small shopping center.

We decided to go back to Win's Spa and see if we can hve our spa done earlier. Luckily they have enough pple, so we had our spa. Relax, relax for 1.5hr except in the mid of massae, my boss called, ignored the call.

We proceed to Lucky Plaza, its a local shopping center, bought a few t-shirts and a kuey lapis, had 2 ice cream, meiji flower ice cream, it is not found in singapore. Went to the A1 seafood that is behind Lucky Plaza but it is too early, nothing open. We went back to leave our things and proceed to Robinson, another local shopping, very noisy and stuffy, the air con is not strong, we are just too pampered. Got some kachang from the super market and then went back to hotel.

Finally got our dinner at the Korean Resturant in the hotel. I enjoyed it, love kimchi soup. There is a little doggie, so adorable, played with her awhile before we go back to the room and end our day.

Tot we'll be having a good nite rest, who knows the roaring of motorcycle is so unbearable and the curtain cannot be drawn...... whole nite din sleep well.

The next day, we booked the massage in the hotel, the lady called up and asked if we want to do massage 1 at 10am 1 at 11am, I told her no we wan to do together, then she said 10am can only 1, 11am can only 1, so we cancel the booking and she asked me why????

We went back to Win's Spa, did our hair treatment cum neck and shoulder massage, its 45,000 equivalent to S$7.69. After massage, we went in to KFC, wanted to buy the potatoe pastry, asked for 2 but the guy said cannot, he speak bahasa indonesia that we dun understand, finally only got 1.... language barrier..........

We went back and pack, getting ready to go home, check out at 12.45pm, the little ger is there to pick us up. Finally home sweet home........

I had been asked this question many times by many different pple - "What do you do everyday after work?"

I dun have an answer for this qn because i am not too sure too. Yesterday one of my friend asked me again, so i decided to put down wht i blog what did i do everyday after work for this month.

2nd Dec Fri Suppose to go for Aerobic but some maroon cannot deciede to issue tickets or not,
so stay up to 7pm.

5th Dec Mon Went home after work and laze around
6th Dec Tue Return and Rent comic books
7th Dec Wed Creativity attacked, made 2 pairs of earrings
8th Dec Thur Went to China town to buy some accessories, CDs and tibits
9th Dec Fri Took half day leave, had quick lunch with my friend, then rush off to help out my friend in the sikh temple, preparation for her house warming nxt day.
10th Dec Sat Having a bad luck day, everyting went wrong, my bosses pissed me off, my whole day is so fart up that i switch off my hp after work and went straight home. The moment i reached home, i on my mp3 loud loud and sleep. After a while, feeling better, i start doing my handicraft......
11th Dec Wake up late, hv my coffee, then cook instand noodle, do my handifcraft.

14th Dec Meet mum and sis at the market, mum buying fruits and flower for praying tomolo
15th Dec Had dinner at Indian Resturant at River Walk, had a great time, great entertainment by the resturant manager
16th Dec Decided to skip aerobic and went to IMM with friend to shop at Daiso, our favourite shop
17th Dec Went to friend house and help her with her new home
18th Dec Climbed Bt Timah Hill in the morning, keep falling asleep in the noon.
19th Dec Went to temple and last min shopping for xmas gift. Bought same bermuda as 3rd sis, we trying to be twin during CNY haha.
20th Dec Had dinner with my friend at Sobasei Jap resturant
21st Dec Went hm after work, mum bring forward the rice dumpling day
22nd Dec Accompany my friend to chose her Hena design on her wedding day, after that went for Komalas and then shop for her make-up.
23rd Dec Wanted to go shopping but after seeing the crowd, decided to go straight home, went to return and rent comic
24th Dec Miserable me, everyone either sleeping, preparing for party, me still at work, sob sob
25th Dec Stayed at home do some alteration for my clothes
26th Dec Continue with alterations
27th Dec Went home straight after work
28th Dec Heard that 502 go direct to my home, so went to try, but waited at the wrong bus stop and wasted an hour waiting.
29th Dec Meet up with friends for dinner
30th Dec Tried taking 502 home at the right bus stop this time
31st Dec Do some shopping with a friend, then had a small gathering counting down and small celebration for her mum birthday.

Ok, that's what i do everyday after work in Dec, no fix routine, no fixed plan.
